Richard A. Nesbit, 62, of Huntsville, passed away on September 11th, 2026. He was born on July 28th, 1964 to Reid Waldo Nesbit and Janet Kay Baier Nesbit.
Richard was a graduate of Texas A&M University, Class of 1987, EET Bachelor of Science Degree. He also graduated from UAH, Class of 1999, Bachelor of Science Degree in Computer Science as well as a Software Engineering Masters from UAH, Class of 2004. He completed all coursework at UAH for a PhD in CS but paused work on his dissertation in favor of getting married and raising a loving family. He was employed with Astrion, formerly known as ERC and worked at RTC for thirty years.
Throughout his life, Richard was dedicated to his work taking great pride in the projects assigned to him. He made lasting friends at RTC.
Richard was a gentle, kind and caring person who loved his family deeply. Richard and Melissa were adoptive and foster parents. Richard full heartedly poured out his love, wisdom and knowledge into his daughters Brooklynn and Madyson, of whom he was very proud and deeply loved.
Growing up, Richard was a protector of his brother and sister and always looked out for those he loved. He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, playing video & board games, watching Havoc Hockey, going to the movies even if it was a bad movie just for the popcorn.
Attending live comedy shows at Levity Live. His favorite people to tag along with him were: his wife, Melissa, daughters, Brooklynn and Madyson, and his brother Brian.
He also treasured the memories of fishing with his grandfather Allen and those memories remained special to him throughout his life. Richard’s relationship with his parents was a special treasure to him, he often reached out to his father for advice and wise counsel. Janet, his mother, he loved making her giggle, which meant he made her happy. His sister Christine was his comedic twin often the two would talk in movie quotes making the other laugh.
No serious conversation could be had without Richard trying to make lite of it. Richard’s brother Brian was definitely his best friend, a lifelong cultivation of brotherly love. Ones longest relationships are often their siblings, Richard and Brian’s was cut too short.
Richard loved his wife, Melissa, with all of his heart, pestering and poking at her was a favorite past time of his, saying, “The day wasn’t finished, if I didn’t poke the bear.” Most, of all they brought the best out of each other.
Richard is survived by his parents, Reid Waldo Nesbit and Janet Kay Baier Nesbit; his wife, Melissa Blevins Nesbit; daughter, Brooklynn Annette Nesbit; foster daughter, Madyson Michelle Stanford; sister, Christine Hoffmann; brother, Brian Nesbit; niece, Megan Hoffmann; bonus family, Heather and Bill Schaare and their daughter, Amanda; Laura and Mike Zigenfuse and Crystal Sims; and his aunt and uncle, Karen and John Scales of Kenbridge, Virginia. He is also survived by many other family members and friends who loved and cherished him.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Allen and Alice Baier of Zephyrhills, Florida and Waldo and Melva Nesbit of Mars, Pennsylvania; his aunt and uncle, Jean and Hans Wolf of Palm Coast, Florida and his aunt Barbara Gail Baier Smith of Tampa Florida, and his in-laws, William and Elizabeth Blevins. William always said of Richard, “I could not have picked a better husband for my daughter.”
NOVA was the gaming club Richard joined at Texas A & M along with his brother Brian. Richard’s NOVA club friends stayed close to him throughout his life and were dear to him; Jon Roda, David Lewis, Duane McGee (deceased), Glen Bucher, Chuckie Gray, Tim Jacobs, and Randy Klepetko. He said of these guys that they were his first real friends outside of family. He was proud of the life, long friendships they had.
Richard will be remembered for his gentle spirit, kind heart, love of family and the many ways he protected and cared for those around him. His memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.

Visitation will be held at Limestone Chapel Funeral Home at 322 Hwy 31 North, Athens, AL 35611 on Thursday, September 17th, 2026 from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m.
Funeral service will be held at Limestone Chapel Funeral Home on Friday, September 18th, 2026 at 1:00 p.m. with Calvin Havens officiating.
Burial will follow at Fielding Cemetery, Athens Alabama.
