James Lenzy “Lynn” Dempsey, age 62 of Double Springs, passed away Friday, September 11, 2026 at his residence. He was born on February 28, 1964. If there was ever a man who truly knew the meaning of hard work, it was Lynn Dempsey. Lynn spent much of his life working in the sawmill industry, including time at Grayson Lumber, Garrison’s Sawmill, and, for the majority of his career, Winston Hardwood. He took great pride in working hard and providing for the family he loved so deeply. As hard as Lynn worked, nothing meant more to him than his family. Some of his happiest times were spent together, especially trips to the mountains in Gatlinburg, where countless memories were made with those he loved most. Lynn was a man of integrity, loyalty, generosity, and a heart for helping others. He was the kind of man who would give you the shirt off his back without thinking twice and was always willing to lend a helping hand. His grandchildren held an especially precious place in his heart. There was no sweeter sound to Lynn than hearing his grandkids walk through the door and say, “Hey, Pawpaw.” The smile that came across his face in those moments showed just how much they meant to him. Lynn leaves behind more than memories—he leaves behind an example of what it means to work hard, love deeply, and put family first. His kindness, strength, and love will continue to live on in the hearts of the family he treasured so dearly. Visitation will be Wednesday, September 16, 2026 from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Nichols Funeral Home in Double Springs, where the service will be held on Thursday, September 17, at 2:00 p.m. Burial Mt. Ebron Cemetery in Double Springs. Brother Martin Brown will officiate. Lynn is survived by his wife of 22 years, Jenny Dempsey; sons, Alan Dempsey, and Edward (Kylar) Lamp; daughters, Julia (Martin) Brown, Magen Khumalo and Chelsy Dempsey; 13 grandchildren; mother-in-law, Jewel Mason; brother, Robert (Michelle) Dempsey; sister, Lorenda “Sissy” (Danny) Flannigan; a host of nieces and nephews; close family friends, Randall and Shawn Long. He is preceded in death by his parents, Jimmy and JuaNella Dempsey; siblings, Deleighua “Delisa” Dempsey, Ray Dempsey, Rusty Dempsey, Terrance Dempsey and David Dempsey.
