Peggy Faires Brady Pierce, 91, went home to be with the Lord on September 11, 2026, leaving behind a life distinguished by her love for Jesus, family, adventure, friendship, and her irrepressible enjoyment of life.
Born August 24, 1935, in Corinth, Mississippi, Peggy was the daughter of Con Franklin Faires and Maude Frink Faires. She attended Corinth High School and represented Corinth in the state Miss Hospitality Contest. She was selected as the Corinth Centennial Queen in 1954.
Peggy attended the University of Mississippi where she was an Ole Miss cheerleader her freshman year. It was there that she met her future husband, Bruce H. Brady. Peggy married Bruce in 1956, and together they made their home in Brookhaven, Mississippi, where they raised their three children, Janie, Bruce, and Becky. Church life, her children’s activities, and community involvement brought Peggy much joy.
An accomplished sportswoman, Peggy traveled extensively with Bruce on hunting expeditions throughout North America. Among her many memorable adventures was an Alaskan grizzly bear hunt. She also achieved the coveted Wild Turkey Grand Slam, successfully hunting all four principal North American wild turkey subspecies in a single year. Whether close to home or in some distant wilderness, Peggy embraced these experiences with enthusiasm, courage, and a genuine love of the outdoors.
Following Bruce’s death, Peggy’s life took an unexpected and joyful turn when she reconnected with a high school classmate, James C. “Jim” Pierce. They married in 2006, and Peggy moved to Huntsville, Alabama, where she would make her home for the next twenty years.
Peggy embraced her new life in Huntsville wholeheartedly. She and Jim enjoyed their church family at Antioch Baptist Church, organizing neighborhood functions with friends, and Peggy joined Jim in becoming an enthusiastic supporter of Mississippi State University, attending games and cheering on the Bulldogs.
Peggy lived 91 years with faith in Jesus as her center. She loved deeply, entered each new season of life willing to embrace what God had placed before her, and always wanted everyone to “Have fun!” Her family will miss her presence immeasurably, but they give thanks for the long and abundant life they shared with her and find comfort in the Christian hope that death is not the end, but a homecoming.
Peggy is survived by her loving husband, James C. Pierce; children, Janie Brady Mooney (Spencer), Bruce Brady, Jr. (Beth) and Becky Brady Taylor (Mike); her grandchildren, Matt Mooney (Anna), Mary Grace Mooney (Jean), Daniel Mooney, Patrick Mooney (Tiffany), John Mooney (Katelyn), Sam Mooney (Polly), Lizzie Mooney Wood (David), Bruce Brady III (Melinda), Kellie Brady McRee (Ben), Wyatt Brady (Courtney), Madison Taylor (Liz), Tully Taylor Holcombe (Daniel), Margaret Taylor Mains (Ryan) and 22 great-grandchildren. Upon her marriage to Jim, Peggy gained a beloved second family: step-children, Lynn Commander (Dave), Larry Pierce (Danna), Anne Affleck (Karl), Carla Thompson (Andy) step-grandchildren, Christy Corley (Gary), Lauren Thompson Woolf (Wes), Pierce Thompson (Carli) and Seth Thompson (Marissa) and 10 step-great-grandchildren. She is also survived by an older brother, Joe Faires of Villa Rica, GA, and many cousins, nieces, and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Bruce H. Brady, her parents, Maude and Con Faires, and step-grandchildren Beth Berry and Lisa Commander.
A service celebrating Peggy’s life and Christian faith will be held at Faith Presbyterian Church in Brookhaven, Mississippi on Monday, September 14, 2026, at 1:00 pm. Visitation will be from 12:00 pm until the time of the service.
An additional service will be held on September 16, 2026, at Antioch Baptist Church in Decatur, Alabama at 1:00 pm. Visitation will be from 12:00 pm until the time of the service.
