Bonita West Lee, 87, of McCalla, passed away on Thursday September 10, 2026, at her residence.Graveside service will be held at Walker Memory Gardens on Thursday, September 17, 2026, at 2 p.m. with Kilgore Green Funeral Home directing. Greg Morrison will officiate.
Bonita was preceded in death by her parents, Ed and Vera West who she loved dearly. In her dementia state of sickness, she would often call her mama from whom she inherited the expertise of sewing and needle work.
She is survived by her loving husband of 66 plus years, John Lee; sons, Mark Lee and Stewart Lee (Dorothy); brother, Roger West; sisters, Paula Buckelew (Robert) and Tanya Poole (Elliott) and a host of relatives and friends.
Bonita graduated from Farmstead Jr. High and Walker County High School in Jasper. While attending Walker College, she worked at the library in Jasper. Bonita met John while they were in college and lived in New Orleans, LA, Mobile, Northport, Vestavia Hills, and McCalla. After John retired, they enjoyed RV traveling and have been in all 48 continental United States. They also visited the Provinces of Canada all the way from Prince Edward Island in the east to British Columbia in the west. John and Bonita are members of Shades Mountain Baptist Church.
The family wishes to express appreciation to Hospice for services rendered during Bonita’s sickness.
Pallbearers will be family members.
