Edward Arthur Smallwood, age 82 of Winchester, passed away peacefully at home on Monday, September 7, 2026, surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Richard City, Tennessee on January 30, 1944, to the late Benjamin Franklin and Myra Helen (Sutton) Smallwood. A proud veteran of the United States Military, he served his country in the Air Force from 1962-1970 and then in the Army from 1971-1985. He then was employed as a Civil Service Program Analyst for twenty years for the Army. His patriotism and love for his country remained throughout his life. He enjoyed music, especially live music, and operating HAM radios. A world traveler, he loved visiting Amsterdam, as well as camping and fishing along the way. Edward was always up for a good game of cards or watching Star Trek, Big Bang Theory, or The Chosen series. He was well-read, witty, outspoken, and headstrong, all of which will be deeply missed by his beloved family and friends. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Ellen Jean Smallwood; and sister, Myra Faye Smallwood. Edward is survived by his loving children, Pamala (Mark) Parette and Elisabeth (Jay) Komanetsky; stepchildren, Myra Faye (Larry) Fischer and Tobie Sean (Tracey) Fore; grandchildren, Gary (Shannon) Hall, Samantha Crawford, Brooke Parette, Nicholas Komanetsky, and Logan Komanetsky; step-grandchildren, Travis (Paula) Fischer, Shawn Fischer, Christian (Rachel) Fore, Lauren (Will) Weaver, and Ian Fore; great-grandchildren, Brayden Hall, Shayna Hall, and Amana Komanetsky-Hurabi; siblings, Michael (Lingling) D’Andrea, Frank D’Andrea, and Minnie (Paul) Kristina; and many nieces, nephews, special cousins, and friends. Visitation will be from 5-8pm on Friday, September 11, 2026, at Moore-Cortner Funeral Home.
