Mrs. Inez Sheffield Whiddon of Meridianville went to be with the Lord on Friday, September 4, 2026 while surrounded by her loving family. She was 91. She was born and raised in the Vernon, Florida community and had lived in Hazel Green, Alabama for many years before moving to Meridianville.
Mrs. Whiddon and her husband, Ray, were faithful members of the First Baptist Church of Hazel Green where they worshipped and served the Lord for many years. Inez had taught Sunday School and Bible studies for 60 years, worked in Vacation Bible School, and was always willing to help and serve where needed.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Leonard Leon & Rhea Mamie Sheffield; her brothers: Vern Sheffield, Gerald Sheffield, Murl Sheffield, and an infant brother, Russell Sheffield.
Surviving family members include her husband of 75 years, Ray Whiddon; her daughter and son-in-law, Angela & Philip Loftis; her daughter, Cheryl Ray Walters; her grandchildren: Jared Ray (Alison) Phillips, Stacey Ray (Joshua) Dixon, Juliana (Barry) Draper, Clay (Kim) Phillips; her great-grandchildren: Parker Ray Phillips, Theo Phillips, Lily Ray Dixon, Cooper Dixon, Hunter Phillips, Bailee Phillips, and Madison Draper. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews along with many friends and church family members.
Funeral services will be Wednesday, September 9, 2026 at 11:30am at the First Baptist Church of Hazel Green with Pastor Brad Williams and Pastor Bobby Eads officiating. Burial will follow the service and will be in Taylor Cemetery in New Market. The family will begin receiving friends at the church at 10am.
Mrs. Whiddon will be remembered for her passionate faith, her love for Jesus, her concern for others, her sweet smile, and for always having a kind and encouraging word to share with others.
