Arnita Snavely Arnita Compton Snavely, 91, of Albertville, Alabama, passed away Saturday, August 29, 2026, after a brief illness. She was born Arnita Compton, the first daughter of Charles Arnold Compton and Anna Frances Brown Compton, of Prestonsburg, Kentucky. She was the lifelong wife and traveling partner of Walter Eugene Snavely, also of Prestonsburg and the mother of three children, Karen, Charles and Nena. Arnita was a lifelong member of the First United Methodist Church of Prestonsburg and participated in many community activities such as the Mended Hearts, the East Point Homemakers, the Methodist Church choir and the sewing circle at the church.
But mostly she was a loving Army wife and mother, having lived in many locations around with world with her husband and children. She had lived in Albertville, Alabama, for the past several years with her daughter, Nena.
Arnita was preceded in death by her brother, Charles Roy Compton, daughter Karen Snavely, her husband, Walter Snavely, her grandson Charles Christopher Snavely, and son-in-law John Biliter. She is survived by her sister, Polly Ann (Larry) Blevins of Excelsior Springs, Missouri, her daughter, Nena Biliter, of Albertville, Alabama and her son Charles (Shari) Snavely of Huntsville, Alabama. She is also survived by her granddaughter Kathryn S. (Garrett) Dennis and their three children Charlotte, Christopher and Anna Cate of Huntsville, Alabama.
A graveside ceremony will be held on Tuesday, September 22, at 11:00 a.m. at Davidson Memorial Gardens, in Ivel, Kentucky, where Arnita will be laid to rest with her husband, Walter.
