Eddy “Cliff” Smith, age 68, of Athens, Alabama, passed away peacefully on August 30th, 2026. He was born on August 27th, 1958.
Cliff was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 48 years, Charlene Davis Smith; his daughter, Maghen Smith (David); his grandchildren, Wyatt Smith and Evelyn Smith; his brother, Ted Smith (Marcy); and many nieces and nephews who held a special place in his heart.
Cliff was preceded in death by his parents, Clifford and Inez Bailey Smith; and his brother, Rodney Smith.
Cliff was a faithful member and deacon at West Hobbs Street Church of Christ and a 40 year educator in Athens City and Limestone County Schools. He was an avid sports fan, whether playing himself or volunteering at Athens High School. He could be seen at the scorer’s table at basketball, on the sideline at football, in the dugout at baseball, or cheering on cross country. He was also their bus driver.
Visitation will be held Saturday, September 5th, 2026, from 1:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m. at West Hobbs Street Church of Christ. Funeral services will follow at 3:00 p.m. with Russell Johnson, Bill Irby, and Jameson Steward officiating.
Pallbearers will be Jimmy Skipworth, Don Bowling, Perry Martin, Charles Owsley, Matthew Belew, and Alex Dunn.
Burial will follow at Antioch Cemetery in Elkmont, Alabama.
Cliff will be remembered with love and cherished in the hearts of his family and friends. His memory will live on through the many lives he touched.
