Marty Brown, 52, passed away suddenly on Wednesday, September 2, 2026. Marty was born Tuesday, August 20, 1974, to Anna Jean Hanson Massey and Fred Mitch Massey in Jackson, Mississippi. Marty spent a portion of her childhood in Tupelo and then moved with her mother and brother, Cooper, to Atlanta. After attending Hollins College, Marty joined Chi Omega Sorority at Ole Miss in 1995, where she met the love of her life, Chan Brown. Chan and Marty married on Saturday, April 18, 1998. After graduating from nursing school, they moved to New Albany and then back home to Tupelo to raise their three children.
Marty loved her friends from every stage of her life. She had countless friends who thought she was their best friend. She was the first one to show up at your door with food and a hug. Marty lived out her faith as a caregiver for her grandmother, mother, and many others in the community, whether as a nurse, a provider of food, or by giving her time and love. Marty served on the cookbook committee for the Sanctuary Hospice House, the Junior Garden Club, and as president of Junior Auxiliary of Lee County. Marty was a faithful member of the Orchard and served in countless ways in her church and the town that she loved. Most of all, Marty loved her children and her husband.
Marty is survived by her husband of 28 years, Chan Brown, and their children, Paxton, Carter, and Chandler. She is also survived by her mother, Jeannie Massey, and father, Dr. Mitch Massey, as well as her brothers, Cooper (Kathy) Massey, Adam (Mary Frances) Massey, and Jon (Cameron) Massey; her aunt, Barbara (Glenn) Badham; her mother-in-law and father-in-law, Susan and Tommy Brown; brother-in-law, Chad (Mika) Brown; sister-in-law, Chrysler (Chance) Carter; and 11 nieces and nephews. She also cherished her godchildren, Bo Blossom, Palmer LaMoreaux, and Nina Brauch.
She is preceded in death by her grandparents, Corrine and Fred Massey, and Anna Jean and Herburt Hanson.
