ATHENS-For a second straight year, the Athens Police Department (APD) is honored to participate in Childhood Cancer Awareness Month throughout the month of September.
APD officers have traded in their traditional silver badges for gold badges for the entire month to show support for the brave children currently battling the disease or who have lost their battle to childhood cancer all across the globe.
Gold is the internationally recognized color for childhood cancer awareness. By donning these special badges, APD hopes to raise some awareness and offer a message of hope to those who stop and ask them about it.
“Our heart goes out to the families in our community and beyond who are facing the challenge of a childhood cancer diagnosis,” said Chief Anthony Pressnell. “We believe these badges are the least we can do to stand with these families. This is our way of showing them they are not alone in this fight. The strength these children have is incredible and they need to know all of us here at APD are supporting them.”
The Athens Police Department invites the Athens and Limestone County community to join them this September in recognizing Childhood Cancer Awareness Month. Whether through supporting pediatric cancer foundations like St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or simply by learning more about the signs and symptoms of childhood cancer. Every action helps in the collective effort toward better treatments and eventually a cure.
