ATHENS-On August 19, Athens Mayor Ronnie Marks proclaimed Friday, August 21, as “Rep the A Day” in Athens, officially marking it as a day for our community to gather together in celebration of the annual Pep Rally on The Square.
For decades, the Pep Rally on The Square has been held before the first home game of the Athens High School football season. It is a cherished tradition where hundreds of neighbors gather to cheer on our Golden Eagles.
Mayor Marks signed the official proclamation surrounded by the Golden Eagles cheer and dance teams, as well as several members of the Athens High School athletic staff including Head Football Coach Cody Gross and AHS Principal Willie Moore.
Marks urged every resident to let their Golden Eagles pride shine brightly throughout our streets this Friday in celebration of the football team.
“The Pep Rally on The Square really does a great job at showcasing the classic, southern character of Athens,” said Mayor Marks. “It brings players, coaches, cheerleaders, band members, and fans together in our historic Downtown Athens to kick off the football season the only way we know how. “
The City of Athens invites you and your loved ones to dress in black and gold and join us in supporting the Athens High School Golden Eagles. To ensure our families can celebrate together, Athens City Schools will have early dismissal. Please be mindful of the adjusted bus schedules so our young fans can make it home safely before heading downtown.
“I encourage every citizen to find their black and gold and wear it with honor,” Mayor Marks added. “Let’s show these students that their entire community stands behind them.”
The Pep Rally on The Square begins this Friday, August 21, at 3:30 p.m. on Marion Street. We hope you will join us in this beautiful display of community spirit. For further details, please refer to the event poster.
We all look forward to seeing you there!
