Joe Don King, a beloved father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and proud United States Navy veteran, passed away peacefully on August 15, 2026, surrounded by the love and memories of those who meant so much to him.
Born in Missouri on September 22, 1951, the eighth child of nine, Joe and his family were migrant farmers who moved with the seasons between Missouri and Florida, until his parents settled permanently in Tishomingo County, Mississippi. Joe attended Belmont High School and graduated in 1970. After graduation he headed to bootcamp, for the United States Navy, where he proudly dedicated two decades of his life serving his country. His strength, dedication, and love for his family were a lasting part of who he was.
Music was one of his greatest joys. He loved playing music and continued to share that gift and passion throughout his life, right up until his passing. His music, laughter, stories, and love will remain in the hearts of all who knew him.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Virginia Jesse (Goza) King, father, Thomas Irvin King, his four siblings, Veneva Slaughter, Quinton King, Frank King, Virginia Summers.
He leaves behind his five loving children, Heath King (Misty), Heather Mallett (Chuck), Joe King II, Allison Harrison (Patrick), and Andrew King (Britney); twelve grandchildren, Michelle Mallett, Jennifer Egnot (Matt), Matthew Mallett (Nissa), Maegan Jensen (Aidan), Hayden Rose, Samantha King, Jeremy King, Rachel King (Nathan), Daniel King, Mackenzie King-Kirksey (Adrian), Ryleigh King, Baylor Harrison; six great-grandchildren, Collette Egnot, Madeline Egnot, Logan Egnot, Kai Egnot, Paisley Mallett, Calvin King-Ocker; three sisters, Perry Ross, Glenda Ozbirn, Barbara Hicks, brother, Tommy King; and a host of nieces and nephews along with extended family and friends who will forever cherish his memory.
Though he is no longer with us, his story lives on through his children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, his service to his country, and the music he loved so dearly.
Rest peacefully, Dad. Your song will live on in all of us.
