Funeral services for Mr. Parnell “Buck” Cotney, age 63, of Ashland will be held on August 21, 2026 at 11:00 A.M. at Benefield Funeral Home in Lineville with Elder Asa Moseley officiating. Burial will follow in the Lystra Baptist Church Cemetery.
Parnell was a native and lifelong resident of Clay County, graduated from Mellow Valley High School class of 1981 and began a long career of over 43 years with Wellborn Forest Products. He was dedicated and hardworking, and loved old cars.
He is survived by three sisters; Yvonne Watts (Mike) of Ashland, Wanda Proctor (Frank) and Rita Carol Mattox from Indianapolis, Indiana, and one brother; Johnny Daniel Cotney of Montgomery, his niece; Holly Thornton (Phillip) of Sylacauga, great niece Vada Thornton.
He was preceded in death by his parents; Clifford Daniel Cotney and Vivian Ann Crawford Cotney and two nieces; Brianna and Amy Patterson.
Pallbearers will be Logan Bolding, Josh Peters, Tim Miles, Allen Hopkins, Nathan Moore, Buford Moore and Phillip Thornton.
The family will receive friends at Benefield Funeral Home in Lineville on Thursday August 20, 2026 from 5:30 until 8:00 P.M. and until service time on Friday.
