Christine Baggett Shirley, beloved mother, grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully on August 2, 2026, in Cullman, AL. She was 90 years old and was formerly from Douglasville, GA.
Christine was born in Douglas County, Georgia to Rater Watkins and Mary Elizabeth Carson Watkins in March of 1936. She grew up surrounded by the love of her parents and five siblings.
Christine was a long-time member of Zion View Baptist Church, although her health and location had prevented her from attending in recent years.
Being outside in nature spoke to Christine’s heart. She found peace and joy in walking the beach and collecting eye-catching shells. In the garden, she lovingly tended her flowers and plants. Her homemade cakes and pies brought comfort to family gatherings. And lest we forget, Christine was a shopping enthusiast and a QVC Queen. She was a beautiful person inside and out and will be dearly missed by all who loved her.
Christine is preceded in death by her parents; daughter, Veronica Lynn Rankin; and her siblings, R.T. Watkins, Irene Miller, Vernie Garmon, J.C. Watkins, and Amy Ruth Davis.
She is survived by her daughters, Beverly “Joy” Norris (Ricky) of Cullman, AL, Janice Elizabeth Baggett of Tucker, GA, and Shelia Christine Clackum (Tracy) of Navarre, FL; six grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; and many beloved extended family and friends.
The family will receive friends on Thursday, August 6, from 4:00 to 7:00 PM at Davis-Struempf Funeral Home.
A funeral service honoring Christine’s life will be held on Friday, August 7, at 11:00 AM at Davis-Struempf Chapel, with Rev. David Kight officiating.
