Ruby Leona Brown, 72, of Madison, Alabama, passed away on July 30, 2026. Born on May 18, 1954, Ruby shared 52 years of marriage with her husband, Michael Robert Brown. Together, they raised three daughters and built a life filled with family and memories.
Ruby spent more than 25 years in endoscopy nursing, much of that time at Huntsville Hospital, where she helped patients through some of their most vulnerable moments. She had a natural ability to make people feel cared for, both in her work and in her life.
She loved getting lost in a good book, planning the next trip with her sisters, and spending time at the beach whenever she could. Ruby also loved her animals dearly and leaves behind Lila, her Shih Tzu, and Shadow, her tuxedo cat.
Diabetes eventually forced Ruby to retire and, over the years, changed much about her life. Still, she met each new challenge the way the butterflies she loved met change, with perseverance, transformation, and the determination to keep going. She never complained and rarely allowed others to see how much the disease had taken from her.
Ruby is survived by her husband, Michael Brown; her daughters, Sara Johnston, Heather Overholt, and Erin Matlock; her son-in-law, Berrey Matlock; her grandchildren, Hannah Overholt, Jayden Burwell, Damon Matlock, and Connor Matlock; her great-granddaughter, Emma Jayne Overholt; and her sisters, Peggy Taylor and Sydney Baker.
Ruby was deeply loved. Her family will miss the comfort of her presence, the strength they found in her, and the certainty that she was always there.
A celebration of Ruby’s life will be announced at a later date. The family is grateful for the love and support extended to them during this difficult time.
