Angela Chyong Lin Shih, age 91 of Huntsville, AL passed away peacefully at her home on July 30, 2026.She was born on December 19,1934 in Kyoto, Japan to Geo-Chu Lin and Ching-Ying Lin.
- She was the 2nd child in a family of 9. At the age of 5, she returned to her home in Taiwan. She was a diligent student and graduated at the top of her class at Taiwan Normal University in physics on December 19, 1957. She stayed for 2 years as a teaching assistant after graduation to help care for her family because of her mother’s death.In 1959, she came to the University of Iowa to study under Professor James Van Allen for a master’s degree in physics.Upon meeting Cornelius Shih, she chose to marry and move with him to Auburn, AL where he was an associate professor in Civil Engineering. They had 3 children while residing in Auburn
- .In 1965, Cornelius was offered a full professorship at UAH so they moved to Huntsville where their 4th child, Debbie was born. As a means to provide for the family, they became involved with real estate ventures such as apartments, land development, cemetery and funeral homes. Angela was the managing partner for these endeavors.
- Angela was known for being an outstanding cook and her incredible memory as well as her sharp mind. She emphasized the importance of education and being generous to others. She always tried to do her best at whatever she pursued.She and Cornelius were happily married for 49 years until his death in 2010.
- Angela was preceded in death by 5 of her siblings.
- She is survived by her children: Rosita (Tim) Karigan, Connie Shih, Henry Shih and Debbie Shih (Zoltan Poleretzky).Grandchildren: Chris (Stephanie) Karigan, Jimmy (Tristan) Karigan, Jennifer Karigan, Stephen Karigan, Jillian Shih (Jose Varias), Isla Shih, Evan Wolfe, Alex Poleretzky, Benji (Aliee) Poleretzky, and Sam Poleretzky.Great-Grandchildren: Natalie Karigan, Cory Karigan, Will Karigan, Graysen Bryan-Karigan, Oliver Karigan, Lucy Karigan and Angela Shih-Varias.
