TUSCUMBIA-Colbert County will celebrate 250 years of American freedom on Saturday, August 1, 2026 with a parade and patriotic program at the Colbert County Courthouse.
This official county-wide America 250 event begins at 10 am on August 1 with an America Through the Decades Parade down Main Street in Tuscumbia followed by a patriotic program on the steps of the Colbert County Courthouse at 11 am.
The event is free and open to the public.
Everyone is invited to attend and celebrate America. Attendees are encouraged to bring their own chairs for the 11 am program on the courthouse lawn.
In the event of inclement weather, the 11 am program will be moved inside the Tuscumbia Round House.
Roger Creekmore, Colbert County Administrator, is serving as co-chair of this event. He encourages the public to attend.
“The Colbert County Commissioners cordially invite everyone to join in the celebration of our nation’s 250th birthday on the lawn of the most beautiful Courthouse in Alabama,” Creekmore said.
The America Through the Decades parade will feature floats and entries representing various periods throughout American history, as well as patriotic vehicles. The parade route includes south on Main Street in Tuscumbia, left/east on Sixth Street and north on Dickson street.
“It is so exciting to celebrate our nation’s birthday with the best citizens in America,” said Colbert County Commissioner Tyrus Mansell. “Please join us as we take a look back and honor all those that gave us the best country ever and the freedoms we enjoy. We should never take those hard earned freedoms for granted! As America celebrates 250 years, may all of us continue to honor and protect the ideals that inspired its beginning.”
“I am very excited to be part of the upcoming America 250 event,” Metcalf said. “It has been my pleasure and an honor, indeed, to be a part of the planning and preparation of such a historical event that will bring the Tri-Cities and all of Colbert County together in the County Seat for America’s 250th birthday!”
The 11 am program on the steps of the Courthouse will feature the presentation of the colors by American Legion Post 31, the national anthem by Matt Burcham, a recitation of the Gettysburg Address by Rusty Trapp and prayer by Dr. Jimmy Shaw. Special music will be performed by the choir from the First Missionary Baptist Church of Tuscumbia under the direction of Grant Gunn. Probate Judge Daniel Rosser will keynote, sharing remarks about the U.S. Constitution.
Afterwards, Colbert County Sheriff Eric Balentine will serve free hotdogs on the lawn.
“I’m looking forward to celebrating 250 years of freedom with the citizens of Colbert County,” Balentine said. “This is a monumental day and one for reflection and gratitude. It is an honor to be a part of this special day. May God bless the United States of America.”
The City of Tuscumbia has worked with the County Commission to organize this event and will distribute a limited supply of pocket-size U.S. Constitutions to those who attend. The County Commission will distribute small American flags prior to the parade. District Judge Chad Smith and the Colbert County Juvenile Court will host a children’s station on the courthouse lawn, distributing patriotic activities and books for youth.
“As we celebrate America’s 250th birthday, let us remember that our greatest investment has always been in the next generation,” Smith said. “The staff of the Colbert County Juvenile Court is honored to provide a place where children can laugh, play, and be part of this historic celebration.”
