Clara Catherine Heumphreus passed away on July 10, 2026, in Decatur,
Alabama at 92 years of age.
Clara was born on August 13, 1933, to Paul and Opal Grosch in rural
Danbury, Nebraska. She graduated from Bartley High School in 1951.
Clara was united in marriage to Robert Lee Heumphreus on December
12, 1953. The couple resided in the Trinidad British West Indies for two
years before moving to McCook, Nebraska for two years. They then
settled in Cambridge, Nebraska in 1957 and raised two children, Lea
Ann and Paul Robert.
Clara’s hobbies included painting, crocheting, Scrabble games, Rubik’s
Cubes, creative arts, and spending time with her grandchildren. She was
a lifetime resident of Cambridge and a member of the Cambridge First
Congregational Church, and she took great pleasure in helping any
neighbor in need. She was also very proud of her German ancestry.
Clara is preceded in death by her brother, Paul Richard “Dick” Grosch,
Jr.; parents, Paul and Opal Grosch; and husband, Robert Heumphreus.
Clara is survived by her son, Paul (LeAnn) Heumphreus; daughter, Lea
(Randy) Kroll; grandchildren Troy (Lauren) Heumphreus, Aaron
Heumphreus, Carson Heumphreus, Toni (Josh) May, and Casey (Kyle)
Kelly; great-grandchildren Kota Kelly, Zander May, Olivia and Sofia
Heumphreus.
Cremation was chosen and a memorial service is pending at this time.
