Dempsey FittsRobert Dempsey Fitts was at home with his family, when he returned to his spiritual body with the Lord on July 15, 2026. Dempsey was born August 25, 1935, to Otis and Vera Rea Fitts and grew up in the Liberty Community. He joined the Navy in 1954 and proudly served his country. Afterwards he returned home to help with the family business that involved commercial layer and land farming. He married Barbara Ann Berry in 1970; they made a life together in the Springville Community. Where, for over 50 years, he was a paint/sheetrock contractor and was known for taking pride in his work all over Mississippi and several surrounding states. Studying the bible extensively throughout his life gave him a great appreciation and love for the gifts he was given from God of his family, friends and nature’s beauty. This was reflected in his kind heartedness towards all he met.

Dempsey is survived by his loving and supportive wife of 55 years, Barbara; fur baby girl, Tipsy; his sons, Richard Gene Fitts (Peggy), Robert Dale Fitts (Donna); his daughters, Rhonda Angeline Gregory, Nancy Yvonne Fitts (Mike); grandsons, Zachary Montgomery (Autumn), Brandon Montgomery, T.C. Marion (Tiffany); granddaughters, Mandy Fitts, Jessica Fitts, Stephanie Copeland, Angela Coleman, Karen Fitts, Wendy Huffman (Richard); and 19 great-grandchildren; his brothers, Cecil Fitts (Martha), Mark Fitts (Susan); his sister-n-law, Shirley Fitts; his brothers-in-law, Eugene Berry (Pam) and Rickey Berry.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Otis and Vera Fitts; stepmother, Roxie Staten Fitts; his brother, Lynn Fitts; his sisters, Jerri Bull (Gil), Kay Thompson (Robert); his son-n-law Billy Joe Gregory.

Pallbearers are Zachary Montgomery, Brandon Coleman, Jonathan Fitts, Colin Fitts, Mike Brazil, and Jimmy Wheeler.

The family would like to give a special thank you to the KFC workers and the Butcher Block’s early morning gentlemen and owners, also the Sanctuary Hospice House employees for the home care support they gave in his last few weeks of his life.

A graveside funeral service will take place on Saturday, July 18, 2026, at 10 AM at Oak Forest Cemetery, with visitation starting at 9 AM. Pastor Mike Powell will officiate the service.
