Mrs. Wanda Pigg Hicks of New Market peacefully went to be with the Lord on Friday evening while surrounded by her beloved family. She was 75.
Mrs. Hicks was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and was lovingly known as “Nannie” to many. She had a servant’s heart and found great joy in caring for others. Whether through a home-cooked meal, a kind word, or simply opening her door to anyone in need, she made everyone feel like family. She was known for her delicious fried chicken and homemade biscuits and gravy, her warm hospitality, and for keeping a welcoming home where family and friends always felt at ease.
Mrs. Hicks dedicated more than three decades to serving the community through her work. She was a familiar face at Jerry Evans Pro Shop for 30 years before continuing her career for several more years at Richland Golf Center. She treasured the friendships she made over the years.
Throughout her life, she cared for countless children, becoming a second mother to many who were blessed by her love, guidance, and kindness. Her nurturing spirit and generous heart left a lasting impact on the lives of many.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 57 years, Curtis Hicks; her parents, Walter and Alberta Pigg; and her siblings, Inez Miller, Agnes Elliff, Edward Pigg, Buddy Pigg, Margie Owens, David Pigg, Bobby Pigg, Jackie Pigg, and Dianne Hill.
Surviving family members include her daughter and son-in-law, Michelle and Paul Smith; her son and daughter-in-law, Matt and Shilo Hicks; her daughter and son-in-law, Tori and Renny Rapoza; her grandchildren, Katie (Zach) Jones, Tiny (Dustin) Allison, Dylan Hicks, Aiden Rapoza, Sawyer Hicks, Karah Rapoza, and Bryson Smith; her great-grandchildren, Kingston Allison, Malachi Jones, and Noella Jones; her bonus grandchildren, Aly Coleman Windle, Mary Clayton Windle, and Calan Windle; and her sister, Elaine Ziedan.
The family will receive friends on Thursday evening, July 16, 2026, from 3:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. at The Event Center at Roto-Rooter, 1435 Paramount Drive, Huntsville, Alabama 35806. A Celebration of Life Service will immediately follow at 5:00 p.m.
