Jimmy Ray Estes, age 88, of Jasper, Alabama, passed away peacefully at his home on Wednesday, July 8, 2026.
Jimmy was born on September 12, 1937, in Winston County, Alabama, to Grady and Mary Elizabeth Estes.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his sisters, Mary Ann Kane (Tom) and Betty Estes Davis; and his parents-in-law, Albert and Ida Umphrey.
He is survived by his devoted wife of 64 years, Patsy Umphrey Estes; his brother, Horace Estes; his sister, Gwen Estes Ogden; along with many beloved nieces, nephews, extended family members, and cherished friends.
Jimmy proudly served his country in the National Guard. He dedicated much of his working life to the coal mining industry, retiring from Drummond Coal Company in 1990 after a career spanning 43 years with Marigold Coal Company and Drummond Coal Company.
A faithful Christian, Jimmy was a member of Northside Baptist Church for 64 years. His faith, quiet strength, and steadfast devotion to his family were hallmarks of his life.
One of Jimmy’s greatest joys was living on Smith Lake, where he and Patsy made their home in 1974. Following his retirement, he especially treasured spending his days on the lake, enjoying its beauty, peaceful surroundings, and the simple pleasures of lake life. Those who knew him will remember his gentle spirit, strong work ethic, unwavering faith, and the kindness he extended to everyone he met.

A private graveside service will be held on Saturday, July 11, 2026, at Walker Memory Gardens in Jasper, Alabama, and will be officiated by Reverend Tim Meherg.
