January 24, 1949 – July 4, 2026
It is with heavy hearts and profound gratitude for a life beautifully lived that we announce the passing of Patsy Butler Maples Shellman. Pasty departed this world peacefully on July 4, 2026, at her home in the loving embrace of her family. Born on January 24, 1949, in Madison County, Alabama, she was the cherished daughter of William “Bill” and Lenora Glover Butler.
Patsy’s journey through life was mark by her steadfast faith, deep love for her family, and her unwavering service to her community. She was a beloved member of Willowbrook Church, where her voice rang joyously in the choir, bringing comfort and inspiration to all those who gathered to worship.
Patsy was preceded in death by her parents, William “Bill” and Lenora Glover Butler, and James “Jimmy” Clifton Maples, whose memories she cherished deeply.
She shared a beautiful life with her devoted husband, Henry W. Shellman, Sr., who survives her and was her steadfast companion through every joy and challenge. Together, they built a family that is a testament to their love and commitment. Patsy is also survived by her brother, Bobby Butler of New Hope, AL and her three loving children: Sabrina Maples Cagle (James) of Meridianville, AL; Henry W. Shellman, Jr. (Amber) of Phenix City, AL; and Marlenia Rene Fontenot (Joseph) of LaFayette, LA.
Her legacy continues through her precious grandchildren – Alana Baudoin (Alex), Aubrie Cantrell (Luke), Allie Lyons (Jack), Sophie Shellman, and James Clifton Cagle Jr. – and her great-grandchildren, Sawyer Baudoin and Tucker Baudoin. Patsy adored her grandchildren, who were the light of her life and could do no wrong in her eyes. She also leaves behind a host of beloved cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends who enriched her life with joy and laughter.
Her adventurous spirit led her to travel far and wide, creating lasting memories with her cousins and friends. Yet, her heart was always anchored at home with her family, where her love was a guiding light.
Visitation will be Wednesday 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM at New Hope Funeral Home. A celebration of Life will be held on Thursday at 10:00 AM at New Hope Funeral Home, located in New Hope, AL. All who knew and loved her are welcome to join us in celebrating her life in the Chapel. A private graveside service will follow for family.
The family extends their deepest gratitude to the Lighthouse group, the medical staff at CCI and Huntsville Hospital for their compassionate care during Patsy’s final days. A special thank you is reserved for her best friend, Nancy Butler, for her unwavering support and love. You have been a true blessing, and we love you all.
