MUSCLE SHOALS-On July 1, 2026 at approximately 9:30PM, MSPD Patrol Officers arrested Kristopher A. Whitehurst, 49 of Montgomery , AL for public intoxication. Whitehurst was transported to the Muscle Shoals Police Department Jail without incident.
On July 3, 2026 during a standard routine jail check by MSPD Officers, Whitehurst appeared to be having an unknown medical emergency and was unable to verbally respond to any questions by MSPD Officers. At that moment Colbert County 911 was alerted, and the Muscle Shoals Fire Department along with Keller EMS responded to the scene where Whitehurst was still unable to answer questions.
Shortly after Keller EMS arrived, Whitehurst was transported to Shoals Hospital Emergency Room where he was pronounced deceased. Colbert County Coroner, Justin Gasque was on the scene at Shoals Hospital.
As standard protocol the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency has been requested to handle the review of the incident.
