
Charles Steven Brooks, 67, passed away on Friday, June 26, 2026, at the North Mississippi Medical Center Hospice Unit in Tupelo. Steve was born March 16, 1959, in Baldwyn to Charles and Geneva Russell Brooks. He was a 1977 graduate of Saltillo High School. Steve spent 40 years in law enforcement in Lee County and the City of Saltillo, before retiring in 2013. He enjoyed driving a school bus for many years. He enjoyed cattle farming and cutting hay. He loved his three dogs—Sadie, Sugar, and Fred.
Services will be at 3 p.m. Sunday, June 28, at the McNeece-Morris Funeral Home Chapel in Mantachie with Bro. George Vance officiating. Burial will be in the Center Star Cemetery.
Survivors include one brother, Scottie Brooks (Susanne) of Mantachie; two nieces, Haleigh Betts (Jarrett) and Amber Whitbeck (Joe); one great-niece, Bryleigh Betts; and two uncles and aunts, Tommy and Eva Franks and MC and Brenda Russell.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Pallbearers will be Mark Roberts, Cary Russell, Chris Floyd, Jim Johnson and Dan Gale.
Honorary pallbearers will be Prentiss Brown, Justin Mize, Wesley Mize, Peyton Mize, Michael Patterson, and John Hall.
Visitation will be from 1 p.m. until service time Sunday at the funeral home in Mantachie.
