Funeral Services for Mrs. Carol Sue Raley Lawhorn, age 75 of Ashland, will be held on Friday, June 19, 2026 at Benefield Funeral Home in Ashland at 1:00 P.M. with Pastor Kevin Acre officiating. Burial will follow at the Clay County Memory Gardens.
Mrs. Lawhorn passed away on Wednesday, June 17, 2026 at Grady Memorial Hospital in Atlanta. Aunt Carol was raised in Cragford, Alabama and graduated from Lineville High School in 1969. Aunt Carol was a business owner in Alexander City for many years. After that, she worked as a bookkeeper for the Alabama Department of Corrections, until her retirement. Aunt Carol was a kind-hearted woman who made friends with everyone she met. She dearly loved her nieces and nephew, as well as her great-niece and great-nephews. Aunt Carol loved to take pictures and videos of her family and loved to tell old family stories. She especially loved the holidays because of all the smiles and laughter that surrounded her. Aunt Carol was more than an aunt. She was a source of unwavering support and a cherished friend.
Mrs. Lawson Horn is survived by two nieces: Traci Peterson (Chip) of Ashland and Tara Holmes (Jon) of Wadley; her nephew, John David Riddle (LeEtta) of Cragford; her great-nieces and nephews: Jackson Peterson, Lucas Peterson, Noah Peterson, Wyatt Riddle, and Harper Riddle.
She was preceded in death by her parents: Melvin E. and Mamie Sue Harris Raley; and one sister, Debra Raley Riddle.
Active Pallbearers will be Jackson Peterson, Lucas Peterson, Noah Peterson, Jon Holmes, Wyatt Riddle, and Braxden Young.
Her visitation will take place on Friday, June 19, 2026 at Benefield Funeral Home in Ashland beginning at 11:00 A.M. until service time at 1:00 P.M.
