It is with profound sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of JoAnn C. Speaks, a beloved mother, grandmother, and cherished friend, on Saturday, June 14, 2026. Born in New York on November 11, 1944, JoAnn lived a life marked by love, devotion, and an unwavering commitment to her family. She was 81 years old.
JoAnn was the cherished daughter of the late Peter and Marion Calabro, who’s loving guidance shaped her into the nurturing and selfless woman she became. JoAnn’s life was a beautiful testament to the deep bonds of family and the enduring power of love. She was predeceased by her parents and her beloved son, Stephen L. Speaks, whose memories she carried in her heart.
She is survived by her devoted son, Bradley Speaks and his wife Julie, and three cherished grandchildren (Caroline Yearkey, Jackson Speaks and Virginia Speaks) who brought her immense joy and pride. Throughout her life, JoAnn touched the hearts of many with her warmth and kindness. Her friends and family remember her as a woman of strength and compassion, whose gentle spirit left an indelible mark on everyone who had the privilege of knowing her. Her laughter and love will forever echo in the hearts of those she leaves behind.
A service to celebrate JoAnn’s life will be held on June 27, 2026, at 1:30 PM at St John the Apostle Catholic Church, located at 454 N. Central Ave, Alexander City, AL 35010. All who were touched by JoAnn’s love and friendship are warmly invited to join us in honoring her remarkable life.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made in JoAnn’s memory to St John the Apostle Catholic Church, a place that served her family well, held a special place in her heart, and continues to serve the Alexander City community.
JoAnn C. Speaks will be remembered for her profound love and devotion to her family, her steadfast faith, and the gentle, caring spirit that touched so many lives. Her presence will be deeply missed, but the love she shared with us all will remain forever in our hearts. May she rest in eternal peace.
