SHEFFIELD-Thomas’ Legacy of Love, a 501c3 non-profit, along with family, Catherine, Rashaad (Rah),
Faith, and Hali chose to continue Thomas Sledge’s legacy by focusing on three areas that were
of utmost importance to Thomas. We proudly continue to honor his legacy rooted in love, faith,
education, and unwavering commitment to community.
On Friday, May 15, Thomas’ Legacy of Love celebrated two outstanding students during
Sheffield High School’s Awards Day awarding each with a $1,000 scholarship in recognition of
their dedication and promise for the future.
Talaisha Lewis, daughter of Tamika Johnson plans to attend Northwest Shoals Community
College. Talaisha’s planned field of study is an Associate Degree in Nursing.
Justice Ziegler, son of Debony Jones will attend the University of Alabama. Justice’s planned
field of study is Computer Engineering/Cyber Security.
In addition to the scholarships, the students were gifted laptops by Sharon’s Arms, further
equipping them with the tools needed to succeed in their academic journeys. This powerful
collaboration between Thomas’ Legacy of Love and Sharon’s Arms reflects a shared mission: to
uplift, empower, and invest in the next generation. It is more than support—it is a statement that
these students matter, their futures matter, and their dreams are worth backing.
Thomas’s years of commitment to mentoring and supporting students at Sheffield High
School—alongside his work with Jerry Mills—stands as a lasting testament to a life devoted to
service, compassion, and opportunity for others. The two scholarships were awarded to
empower students with an opportunity that will affect their future and may change their life. Both
recipients have a bright path ahead this fall as they pursue their higher education.
