  Charles David Turner Profile PhotoCharles David Turner, 87, passed away at his residence in Amory on June 2, 2026. Charles was born in Hatley on May 12, 1939 to the late Isaac Albartus and Opal Louise Sugg Turner. He was a graduate of Amory High School, Class of 1958. Charles enlisted in the United States Air Force, serving as an aircraft mechanic. He married Mary Freeman on February 27, 1959 and they celebrated 67 wonderful years together. After his duty was complete in the Air Force, Charles worked at Coca Cola Bottling in Birmingham before returning to Amory where he owned and operated Turner’s Carpet for 16 years. He enjoyed staying busy and was exceptionally gifted at wood working. He made wooden nametags for everyone at church and gave away numerous wooden toys , furniture and wood carvings he had made to his many friends and family. Charles was a member of Amory Church of Christ for over 67 years. He faithfully served many years as a deacon and became known as the church helper, often helping many members with their needs. A friend that could always be counted on, Charles was a true servant of the Lord and began leading singing after he was baptized at 9 years old. He will be remembered as a kind, humble and friendly person who loved to visit.

Charles is survived by his wife of over 67 years, Mary Freeman Turner, Amory; daughter, Pam Spann (Lloyd), Hatley; sons, Johnny Turner (Teresa), Florence, AL and David Turner (Amy), Florence, AL; grandchildren, Cristin Cooper (Chad), Brandon Spann (Megan), Jared Spann (Ashlye), Megan Dabbs (Brady), Anna Wooten (Spencer), Emily Scruggs (Jeremy), Christopher Michael (Stephanie), Katie Brooke Wear (Dustin), Lena Weaver (Nick), Lexi Hollis (Noah) and Lila Turner; 22 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Charles is preceded in death by his sister, Sara Hartley; great grandson, Billy Lloyd Spann; nephew, Mark Hartley.

Funeral services will be held at 2 PM on Friday, June 5, 2026 at Amory Church of Christ with Mr. Jonathan Godsey and Mr. Leslie Grant officiating. Burial will be in New Hope Cemetery. There will be no graveside service. Pallbearers will be Michael Simpson, Brad Garner, Ken Stratton, Larry Edwards, Randy Gray, Wayne Howell, Wayne Jernigan, Doug Spencer and Garthfield Gunn.

Visitation will be Thursday afternoon at Amory Church of Christ from 5-7 PM and on Friday at the church from noon until 2PM.
