FLORENCE-Free downtown concert series, presented again by One Louder, expands into UNA’s first season at Bank Independent Stadium
West 72 Entertainment today announced that Shoals After Dark, its free downtown Florence concert series, returns for a second season this fall — tied to all six University of North Alabama home football weekends and opening alongside UNA’s first-ever game at the new Bank Independent Stadium on September 19. Presented again by the Florence City Lodging Corporation (One Louder), with CB&S Bank signing on as Official Banking Partner, the series builds on its debut season to turn game day into a full night downtown.
While UNA football and Bank Independent provide the backdrop for six exciting weekends in Florence, Shoals After Dark extends the experience beyond the game, bringing live music, entertainment, and community celebration to downtown throughout the fall season.
Each event activates the downtown district after the final whistle, running into the night with live music and programming designed to keep the post-game crowd in Florence rather than heading home. Season two runs across all six UNA home dates, beginning with the September 19 stadium opener and continuing through the fall, including the program’s homecoming weekend, which West 72 has positioned as the season’s flagship event.
The timing is deliberate. UNA’s move to an on-campus stadium, its first permanent home field in the university’s 193-year history, reshapes what a home-game weekend looks like for Florence, drawing larger crowds downtown and extending the window for local hospitality, retail, and nightlife. After a debut season that drew an average of 250 people per event downtown, Shoals After Dark is built to capture that bigger window: giving residents and visitors a reason to stay, spend, and make a night of it after the game ends.
“The Shoals has spent decades as the place where other people’s records got made. This is about giving people a reason to come downtown and stay downtown along with building this region into a market artists actually route through, not just read about in the song credits,” said Matt Irby, President and CEO of West 72 Entertainment. “The new stadium changes the game for this whole area. We intend to make the nights matter as much as the Saturdays.”
For Irby, the series is personal. He studied at the University of North Alabama and got his start in the university’s entertainment department before building a career in live production and venue operations, with stops at the Montgomery Performing Arts Centre, the Dothan Civic Center and Opera House, and the world-famous Flora-Bama. Shoals After Dark is, in part, his effort to build the kind of downtown scene around UNA that he wishes had existed when he was coming up.
One Louder returns as presenting partner after backing the series’ first season, and CB&S Bank joins as Official Banking Partner, commitments that anchor season two and reflect a shared bet on downtown Florence as a live-entertainment destination. Shoals After Dark is free and open to the public. The series operates within Florence’s downtown entertainment district, with a new experience built around live music. Specific lineup announcements will follow in the coming weeks as bookings are confirmed, and will post first to West 72 Entertainment’s social channels, Instagram @West72official and on Facebook at West 72 Ent.
