Teresa Hall Sharp of Decatur, AL passed away on May 30th, 2026. Visitation will be on Friday, June 5th from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm at First Bible Church in Decatur, AL. The Celebration of Life service will immediately follow at 1:00 pm with Pastor Steve Bateman officiating. She will be laid to rest at Roselawn Cemetery in a family graveside service later that afternoon.
Teresa is survived by her husband of 37 years, Dr. Scott Sharp; her three daughters: Lauren Newton (Nick), Kaylee Braswell (Murphy), and Morgan Sharp; her granddaughter Teresa (“Tess”) Newton; her sister Shelley Cavendar (Brad); her brother David Hall (Victory); her mother-in-law Margie Sharp; her sister-in-law Lorna Golden (Stacy); her nieces and nephews: Ann Cunningham (Jon), Matt Cavender (Jennifer), Sarah Kennedy (Trevor), Jared Hall, Ryne Golden (Erika), and Drew Golden (Emily); along with many grandnieces and grandnephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents Leon and Mary Hall and her father-in-law Richard Sharp.
Teresa was born in Topeka, KS on August 2, 1961, the youngest of three children. Soon after she was born, her family moved to Huntsville, AL where she attended Davis Hills Middle School and Johnson High School – making dozens of friends, many of whom she remained close to her whole life. She became involved in Lakewood United Methodist youth group, where she became a Christian and dedicated her life to Jesus. Teresa was also active in Young Life during high school and college and later worked to bring Young Life to Decatur. She attended the University of North Alabama, receiving a degree in Elementary Education and moved back to Huntsville to teach fourth grade. While attending Southside Baptist Church, she met her husband, Scott. They were married on April 1, 1989. They welcomed their first daughter, Lauren, in 1991, the same year Scott began medical school at UAB. He would go on to complete a residency in Memphis, TN where they would welcome their daughters, Kaylee and Morgan. Teresa called herself a “married single mother” for those 9 years. She devoted her life to raising her children in the nurture and admonition of the Lord.
The family moved to Decatur, AL where they have made a home for the last 26 years. They joined First Bible Church where Teresa served by teaching a children’s Sunday School class for several years and grew close to her church family in Bible studies, small groups, and faithful service to others.
After her diagnosis in 2013, six months to live turned into twelve years of graduations, marriages, the birth of a granddaughter, world travel, reunions with friends, cuddles with pets, and quiet time spent with the Lord. Teresa fought the good fight, finished her race, reflected the love of Christ, and is now in her heavenly home.
Pallbearers will be Matt Cavender, Ryne Golden, Drew Golden, Jared Hall, Bruce Mowery, Mike O’Dell, and Carl Peck.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Decatur Morgan County Young Life, First Bible Church Missions Fund, or a local animal shelter.
