Kathleen “Kathy” Emmons Newton, age 73, passed away peacefully on May 12, 2026, in Easley, South Carolina. Kathy was born in Sheffield, Alabama, to Paul Hayze Emmons and Florene “Flo” Wilson.
Kathy was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and friend whose greatest joy in life was her family. She was married to the love of her life, Robert “Bob” Newton, on April 13, 1974, and they shared many happy years together until his passing on June 9, 1996. She was also preceded in death by her daughter, Misty Nicole Mitchem, in 2021.
She is survived by her daughter, Janine Sutter and husband Trey; her son, Bobby Newton and wife Amy; her brother, Paul Emmons and wife Barbara; and her beloved grandchildren, Dale Sutter, Jordan Sutter, Riley Mitchem, Leah Mitchem, Aidan Mitchem, Taylor Mitchem, Spencer Newton, and Sean Newton. She also leaves behind many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends who loved her dearly.
In her younger years, Kathy proudly served her community as an EMT with the Lorton Volunteer Fire Department in Lorton, Virginia. She had a lifelong love of reading and was a woman of faith who was of the Baptist faith. Above all else, Kathy treasured being a mother and once said, “I want to be remembered as a good mother above anything else. That’s always been my most important and proud accomplishment.”
A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, May 26, 2026, at 5:00 p.m. at Colbert Memorial Funeral Home. Visitation will be held prior to the service from 4:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m.
The family finds comfort in her favorite scripture, John 14:1-6:
“Let not your heart be troubled: ye believe in God, believe also in me. In my Father’s house are many mansions… I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.”
Kathy’s love, strength, and devotion to her family will never be forgotten.
