failing schoolsMONTGOMERY -A total of 78 schools across Alabama have been identified as failing according to standards set by the Alabama Accountability Act of 2013. The newly-passed Accountability Act allows students at failing schools to transfer to a better performing public school or get tax credits to transfer to a private school.schools part 1

Poor schools and middle schools are at the top of the list of schools designated as failing under  criteria established by the Alabama Accountability Act The Act is an extremely controversial school choice law approved by the Legislature and signed by governor Bentley in the recent legislative session.schools part 2 The Alabama Accountability Act defines a ‘failing school’ as one that has been designated as failing by the State Superintendent of Education or until June of 2017 listed three or more times in the last six years in the bottom 6 percent of performance on the state standardized tests in reading and math.
