Larry McCutcheon, her grandson, officiating and Peck Funeral Home directing. Burial will be in Hartselle Memory Gardens. Visitation will be Saturday, December 3, 2016 from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM at the funeral home.

Mrs. McCutcheon died on Tuesday, November 29, 2016 at Falkville Health Care Center, following a long battle with Alzheimer’s Disease. She was born east of Hartselle on February 11, 1936 and spent most of her childhood on the farm. Her family eventually moved to town where Katie graduated from Morgan County High School in 1954. Katie married Thomas E. (Pete) McCutcheon in 1955 and was a loving and devoted wife to her Army National Guard husband for 45 years. At the armory, First Sergeant McCutcheon was known as “Top,” but Pete would tell you that at home, Katie was the one giving the orders. Katie loved her children and grandchildren dearly and was a kind and thoughtful sister, neighbor and friend. She was a lifelong Christian and was a member of Central Christian Church and the Sparkman Street Church of Christ. Along with her job as a mother and a homemaker, Katie was a President’s Club Award-winning Avon Sales Representative. Her customers and their daughters fondly remember looking forward to her twice monthly delivery of their orders, along with tiny lipstick samples and a new Avon book. Katie is also remembered for her tasty mac and cheese and coleslaw, her devotion to Days of Our Lives, and her uncanny ability to guess the puzzles on Wheel of Fortune.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas E. (Pete) McCutcheon; her parents, Richard Wesley Tapscott and Ruth A. Lawrence Tapscott; a brother, Eldridge Hopper; and three sisters, Joyce Fowler, June Failor and Margie Jarrett.

She is survived by her sons, Thomas Wesley (Tom) McCutcheon (Jane) and Jeffery Gene (Jeff) McCutcheon (Dana) and her daughter, Karla Jane (McCutcheon) Buffington (Scott), all of Hartselle; two Sisters: Ruth Parker (Lelton) of Morgan City and Flora Morris (Franklin) of Hartselle. Six Grandchildren: Sam Jones McCutcheon (Ashley), Kathryn Lauryl McCutcheon, Larry Thomas McCutcheon (Mary Evelyn), James Matthew McCutcheon, Sara Suzanne McCutcheon and Molly Kathleen Buffington and many nieces and nephews.

Special thanks to the nurses and caregivers at Falkville Health Care Center

for their patient and loving care given to our mother.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to The Alzheimer’s Association https://www.alz.org/.
