33rd Anniversary Celebrating LaGrange College; Recall Lagrange’s Distillery Raid May 1

LEIGHTON-Commemorating the 191st Anniversary Recall LaGrange will hold several events from 10:00AM until 4:00PM on Saturday, May 1 at LaGrange College Site Park located at 1491 LaGrange College Road in Leighton.

Events including Art/Crafts demonstrations, vendors wagon rides to the historic cemetery from 10 until 2.  There will be a petting zoo and good downhome vittles all day on  Saturday.  All pioneer log buildings will be open for tours with music from 10 until 2. Along with many other events and Civil War displays and demonstrations.

Recall LaGrange’s Distillery Raid on the Mountain will include a period correct living history centering on a Prohibition Era raid on a “suspected moonshine still.”

A group of lawmen will descend on the pioneer village of LaGrange and will engage in a brief skirmish with the locals.

The skirmish will be held around 2PM on Saturday at the College Park Site. Living history presentations will be ongoing throughout the day and there will be tours of the Dawson Distillery near the park during the day of the event.

Dawson Distillery ill be open on the May 1 event from 9:00AM until 6:00PM.

Also the Alabama Bicentennial Table will be on display.  This 1800’s Dining table displayed at the LaGrange College Site’s Welcome Center, will be featured during the Recall LaGrange Event. The table, was once owned by Charles Tait who prepared the bill that was used for Alabama Statehood. Tait’s family, Paul E. and Jimmy Jones live in Leighton, Alabama.
