ATHENS-Camp Hope is a free, one day summer camp for kids and teens who have experienced the death of a loved one. The loss doesn’t have to be recent or associated with Hospice – it can be any loss that is affecting the camper. Additionally, campers can return year after year! Camp Hope is sponsored by Hospice of Limestone County.
Who: Campers may be any child or teen age 5 to 15
When: Tuesday, June 7, 2022 from 9 am to 3 pm
Where: at Camp Helen Baptist Campground — 14477 Baptist Camp Road Harvest, AL
Events include: meeting and becoming friends with other kids who’ve experienced loss, crafts and memory books, swimming, fishing, water slides, face painting and much, much more. We provide lunch, t-shirt and snacks.
During this unprecedented time of uncertainty, Hospice of Limestone County recognizes the need for bereavement services for our community, especially for our children. In addition, safety and health are among our top priorities for the community. So many have experienced loss in one way or another — especially recently. Our goal is to serve these campers, families and volunteers in the safest way possible. We have several plans in place to meet these safety goals and with things changing daily, we are also adapting plans along the way.
Buddy Volunteers Needed
Anyone wishing to volunteer at Camp Hope must be at least 15 years old and complete a training session and paperwork. You only have to attend one, short training to be able to volunteer.
“Buddy volunteers” are paired one-on-one with a camper to hang out and make the most of their day at camp! This includes helping your camper with their crafts, swimming, fishing, talking to them about their feelings and simply being a friend.
Your job for the day as a volunteer buddy? Help make it the best day ever for your camper!! You will arrive at Camp Helen at 8 a.m. and leave after the celebration service, around 3 p.m.
We provide lunch, snacks and t-shirts for all volunteers.
