2003 Cold Case Murder Solved In Lee County, MS

TUPELO, MS-On July 14, 2003, the Lee County Sheriff’s Department responded to a possible homicide on County Road 1792. Upon arrival, Wendy Benson was found deceased in the residence
with obvious signs of foul play.

The case was investigated for many years, however, eventually turned cold. Recently, the Mississippi Bureau of Investigation met with Lee County Sheriff’s Department Investigators and reopened the case because of new technology in forensic testing. After a lengthy investigation, resulting in new evidence, charges were brought against Richard Truelock for the murder of Wendy Benson.

Lee County Sheriff’s Department Investigators, along with MBI Investigators, worked tirelessly on the case and brought forth an end to a year’s long investigation and provided closure to the family.
Suspect: Richard Truelock- 62 yoa, Mantachie, MS
Charge- Murder
His bond was set at $1,000,000.00.
