SHEFFIELD-The Ritz Theatre is kicking off its new theatre season with a 1920s-themed cocktail party on Friday July 1 at 7 p.m. This special event, called Return to The Ritz Golden Age, will feature a speakeasy, silent film, and performances by the cast of The Drowsy Chaperone, which will be the first production of the season. Tickets for both the party and the play are available at tennesseevalleyarts.org.
Attendees at the Return to The Ritz Golden Age party will travel back in time to the theatre’s original opening in 1928. Dress for the event is 1920s/1930s glamor. The $15 ticket includes admission and light hors d’oeuvres, and a cash bar will be available.
The Tennessee Valley Art Association, which runs The Ritz, is excited to have a full theatre season after two years of uncertainty.
“This party is a way for the community to ‘Return to The Ritz,’ enjoy some entertainment, and get ready for the theatre season. It’s our way of kicking off our own Roaring 20s for this century,” said TVAA director Christi Britten.
The 1920s theme also ties in with the season’s opening production, the jazz-age musical comedy The Drowsy Chaperone. Performance dates for the show are July 8-9 and 15-17.
