Philip Alexander Geddes, 84, of Decatur, Alabama, died peacefully at his home on Sunday, March 5, 2023.

Philip was born in Falls Church, Virginia on October 25th, 1938. He attended Lynchburg College, where he earned a Bachelor of Arts, and Emory University, where he earned a Juris Doctor in 1970. From 1956 to 1958, Philip proudly served in the United States Naval Reserve as a member of the USS Drum submarine unit. Afterward, he served in the United States Marine Corps and the United States Marine Corps Reserve as a First Lieutenant from 1962 to 1964 and as a Captain from 1965 to 1968. From 1976 until his death, Philip practiced law, most notably as the Northern District of Alabama Chapter 13 Trustee from 1978 to 2013 and in international law.

He was preceded in death by his parents, William Hodge and Jewell Coker Geddes, and his brothers, Wilbert, Max, and Roland. He is survived by his wife of 34 years, Cynthia Payne Geddes; daughters, Carol Geddes Miner (Tim), and Virginia Geddes Kennedy; stepchildren, Anna Lacy McMains and Wes McMains; sister, Carol G. Newman, brother, Kenneth (Nancy); grandchildren, Sarah Miner, Allison Miner, and Geordie Kennedy; brother-in-law, Dave Payne (Kathy); and sister-in-law, Rene Shrout (Roddy); and many nieces and nephews. The family would like to thank his caregiver, Tracy Fletcher, and for the caring and compassionate staff of Hospice of the Valley of Decatur.

A graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday March 13, 2023, at Maple Hill Cemetery in Huntsville, Alabama.
