Mary Lois Daniel Turney – Obituary

Mary Lois Daniel Turney, known mostly as Lois, passed away on January 31, 2013 at Covenant Hospice in Pensacola, Fla., after a brief illness. Lois was born on June 27, 1926, to Marcus Daniel and Limmer Bates Daniel in Lawrence County. She was the youngest child in her family. She attended Morgan County High School in Hartselle.

Lois started her professional career in Oak Ridge, Tennessee, during World War II. She married Wilks W. Turney in 1948, and moved to Cullman. She was employed at Cullman Lingerie during the fifties, went to Sears for a long career during the sixties, seventies and eighties. After retirement from Sears she work at CARTS.

She is predeceased by her parents; her sisters, Marie Barrett and Melba Ford; her brother, Leldon Daniel; and her husband of 47 years, Wilks W. Turney Sr. who passed in 1995. She moved to Lillian in 1998 to be closer to family. In Lillian she was a member of the First Baptist Church.

She was an excellent cook, decorator, gardener and all around home economist. She loved the Lord.

Lois is survived by her loving family, son, Wilks W. Turney Jr. (Janie) of Pensacola, Fla.; her grandson, Joshua Turney (Heather) of Atlanta, Ga.; and granddaughter, Paige Elise Turney(Christopher Martin) of Pensacola, Fla. The lights of her life were great-grandson, Miles Turner and great-granddaughter, Roxy Martin, both of Pensacola. She had many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Her special friend was Nell Sanders of Lillian.

Services will be held at Cullman Funeral Home on Tuesday, February 5, 2013, viewing from 1 to 2 p.m. with a chapel service at 2 p.m. Burial will follow in Cook Cemetery near Cole Springs in Morgan County.
