Ruth Emmons Flippo – Obituary

Ruth Emmons Flippo, 1915-2012. Ruth was born in 1915 at Middleton, TN to Mr. & Mrs. George Washington Crawford. She had four brothers and four sisters; J.D. Crawford of New Albany, MS, Preston Crawford of Bessemer, AL, Kenneth Crawford of Corinth, MS, Bill Crawford of Orlando, FL, Mamie Gray of Mobile, AL, Park Burns of Sheffield, AL, Louise Allen Gibson of Florence, AL and Georgia Jobe Fricker of Huntsville, AL.

Ruth met her first husband, Anthony E. Emmons, Jr. at church in Corinth, MS. They worked 43 years for Churches of Christ in Tennessee, Texas, Kentucky and Alabama. From their marriage came two children, Anthony Wayne Emmons of Memphis, TN and Toni Ruth Kelley of Mobile, AL; three grandchildren, Celeste Emmons, Angie Emmons and David Kelley; four great grandchildren, Lizzie, Sophie and Conner Reedy and Aidan Kelley.

After Anthony’s death in 1980, Ruth married William (Bill) Flippo, a deacon at Wood Avenue Church of Christ in Florence. Ruth then worked 28 years as a volunteer for churches and schools in the Florence area and for ECM Hospital. She is a lifetime member of the AWO at Mars Hill.

Ruth’s step-daughters through Bill Flippo are Ann Rickard of Montgomery, AL and Lucretia Gooch of Florence, AL. There are six step grandchildren and a number of step great grandchildren.

Visitation will be Friday, Nov. 23, 1-2 p.m. at Spry~Williams Funeral Home, Florence. The funeral service will follow in the Funeral Home Chapel at 2:00 p.m. with Bro. Kenneth Davis officiating. Interment will be at Tri-Cities Memorial Gardens.

Deacons of Wood Avenue Church of Christ will serve as pallbearers.

Memorials may be made to Mars Hill Bible School or Wood Avenue Church of Christ in Florence.
