James Edgar “Buck” Bowling

James "Buck" Bowling James Edgar “Buck” Bowling, 91 of Florence, AL passed away on Friday, June 7, 2019.  He was a graduate of Russellville High School where he was recognized for never missing a day of school for grades 1st through 12th.   He retired from Ford Motor Company and Chrysler. Years before, he worked for Reynoldlite in Sheffield where he worked on a missile that sent the first satellite into orbit.  He was an avid lover of Alabama football and was a member of Highland Baptist Church.

 

Visitation will be held on Sunday, June 9, 2019 from 1-2:00 p.m. at Elkins Funeral Home.  The funeral service will follow at 2:00 p.m. in the funeral chapel with Bro. Chris Underwood officiating.  Interment will be in Tri-Cities Memorial Gardens. Elkins Funeral Home, Florence is assisting the family.

 

He was preceded in death by his parents, Edgar and Pauline Smith Bowling ; daughter, Janey Lou Bowling; grandson, James Wilburn Bowling; brothers, Nevon, Dwight, Allen, Byrl, and Tom Bowling; sisters, Margie Newton, Mary Richeson, Grace Martin and Bonzie Dickey.

 

Survivors include his wife of seventy years, Anna Bowling; children, Martha Lopez (Pete), David Bowling (Mary), Denise Porch, Lynne Kelley (Keith); grandchildren, Amy Wolfe (Marty), Ben Bowling (Mary), Chris Wolfe, Alice Hagan (Steve), Leah Morrissey (Mark), Janey Rohling, Macy Littrell (Chris), Lane Rohling (Haley); great-grandchildren, Bailey Bowling, Makenzie Bullard, Emma Bowling, Sam Bowling, Caleb Bullard, Addison Morrissey, Eason Rohling, Amelia Morrissey and Audrey Morrissey; brothers, Paul Bowling (Doris Ann); sister, Hilda Montgomery; numerous nieces and nephews.

 

Pallbearers will be Don Bowling, Greg Bowling, Ben Bowling, Chris Wolfe, Lane Rohling, Densel Martin and Garry Bowling. Honorary pallbearers will be Ken Bowling, Dr. Keith Thompson, George Spelling and Omarquis Ricks

 

The family would like to extend a special thanks to caregiver, Omarquis “Omar” Ricks who Buck referred to as his best friend and buddy.  Also, special thanks to the staff at the Summit, Dr. Ty Ashley, Comfort Care and other sitters and caregivers.  We would like to acknowledge the special attention and care that Dr. Keith Thompson gave daddy. Buck also looked forward to his faithful visits from his only surviving brother, Paul Bowling.

 

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St Jude’s Children Research Hospital or the charity of your choice.
