James was a native of Waterloo his whole life. He was a 1975 graduate of Waterloo High School. After graduation, he went to work at the Foundry of the Shoals until they closed their doors in 2002. Then he went to work at Methvin Equipment, where he worked until he got sick in August 2018. He truly loved his job and going into work daily. On weekends, he enjoyed drinking coffee and eating breakfast with friends at Haddocks Quick Stop and Bev’s Diner. But the highlight of his life was being a Pappy to his two grandsons.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Rufus and Marcella South.
James is survived by his son, Jeremy Clay and daughter-in-law, Annie Ogletree; grandsons, Jackson Clay and Jase Ray; brothers, Roger (Kim), Randy (Cheryl), Ricky (Teresa), Stevie (Stacy), and Phillip (Nikki).
The family would like to express their appreciation and thanks to Caregiver Glynda Bonner and the staff at Kindred Hospice, especially Nurse Kristy, Nurse Jamie, and Bath-aide Holly.
Pallbearers will be Phillip South, Rodney Methvin, Rodney Methvin Jr., Ken Goode, Jim Donaldson, and Roger Wilbanks.
Honorary pallbearers are Jeff Thompson, James Dawson, Chris Duncan, Buck Himber, Thomas McClure, and Sammy Morris.
