James Raymond “Gene” Autry, age 82, of Tuscumbia, passed away on Thursday, February 7, 2019. His visitation will be Monday, February 11, 2019 from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. at Morrison Funeral Home, Tuscumbia. The funeral service will follow at 1:00 p.m. in the funeral home chapel with Bro. Barrett Long officiating. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery, Tuscumbia.
Gene was a native of Tuscumbia, Alabama and a retired Salesman. He was a member of the Baptist Church. Gene was a 1953 graduate of Deshler High School and was very active in organizing class reunions. He was also a graduate of Florence State Teachers College. Gene was a patriotic man, full of energy and life. He was also a loving and devoted husband and was a very generous man.
He was preceded in death by his parents, James Raymond and Mary Elizabeth Autry; and the mother of his daughter, Joyce Ann Autry.
Survivors include his loving wife, Mary Elizabeth Lindsey Autry; daughter, Elizabeth Ann Borden (Todd); brother, David “Dickie” Autry (Kay); 3 grandchildren; and 2 great-grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to First Baptist Church of Tuscumbia or St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital.
