Neva Bailey HarveyNeva Gray Bailey Harvey, age 89, passed away January 17, 2019 at Jackson Madison County General Hospital.

She was born March 6, 1929 in Henderson and grew up at Jacks Creek, the daughter of the late Robert Edward and Crissie Alice Wilson Bailey. She graduated from Chester County High School. She earned a teacher’s certificate from Freed Hardman and later received a bachelor’s degree in education from Bethel University. She married George Edward Harvey in 1952.

They made their home in the Unity Community where Mr. Harvey farmed. She taught in the Chester County school system, beginning at Harmony, and taught in the school system for over thirty years, retiring from Jacks Creek Elementary.

She was a member of the Chester County retired Teachers Association. She enjoyed quilting with the Unity Quilting Ladies. She had been a member of the McCall’s Home Demonstration Club and more recently the FCE.
She was active in the Unity Baptist Church having taught children’s and ladies classes.

Mrs. Harvey is survived by a son, Ira Mitchell Harvey of Luray; a daughter, Judy Harvey Cook of Waynesboro; a brother, Lance Bailey of Jacks Creek; two sisters, Charlotte Joyner of Jacks Creek, Jane Morris at Jacks Creek; three grandchildren, four great grandchildren, two step grandchildren, two step great grandchildren and one step great greatgrandchild.

She was preceded in death by her parents, a stepdaughter, a sister, Faye Pitts and three brothers, Roy, Robert and Allen Bailey.
Funeral services will be 2:00 PM Sunday at Shackelford Funeral Directors – Crook Avenue with Dr. James Huggins officiating. Burial will follow in Unity Cemetery.

The family will receive friends at Crook Avenue 5 PM until 8 PM on Saturday and Sunday from noon until 2 PM.
