ATHENS-Athens Arts League is a nonprofit art organization that makes a significant impact in Alabama.  Here are just a FEW of the things the Art League has have worked on in 2018.

Students at a Limestone County elementary school receive art classes twice monthly because of a DEKKO Foundation Art Grant and the volunteers with Athens Arts League.

Grammy nominated and hometown musician extraordinaire, Anderson East, stands in front of Scout Music House with members of the Athens Arts League Board, just prior to his performance that raised thousands toward the renovation of the 1938 historic structure. The Scout Music House will host a multitude of educational and cultural music programs and concerts.

We recently unveiled the Patti Malone portrait which was painted by the uber-talented Ann Moeller Steverson. Patti Malone was born a slave in Athens, Alabama, on Cedars Plantation. She went to the Trinity School in Athens to learn to read after the Civil War. She was recruited by Fisk University to sing with the Jubilee Singers and she made her debut in Hamburg, Germany. She toured with the Jubilee Singers for twenty years, all over Europe, New Zealand, Australia, and throughout the United States. She is called, ‘The First Lady of Music in Athens, Alabama.’ Thank you to the Muscle Shoals National Heritage Area for the grant that helped us work to create this great portrait for generations to appreciate.

YOUR GIVING HAS LED TO:

A record year for the Athens Arts League volunteers to make a difference in the lives of others…Loads of smiles from happy children…Occasions for local artists and musicians to bring a little joy to the community and build their businesses…A tremendous chance for local citizens and students to do their best creatively because of the artists who teach them at High Cotton Arts…The opportunity for a diverse group of devoted volunteers to come together and work tirelessly to keep the arts alive and thriving in our own community…The space for students to showcase their work with pride in a public art center, with other professional artists, in downtown Athens, Alabama.
