One Dead, One Injured In Botched Muscle Shoals Robbery

MUSCLE SHOALS-On Monday December 24 one person was killed and another injured and Muscle Shoals Police have arrested two suspects in an attempted robbery that went wrong.

According to investigators Malaivee Howard Hawkins, 24 from Tuscumbia was shot and killed during an altercation at a residences in Muscle Shoals on Gusmus Avenue.  According to Muscle Shoals Police the shooting happened around 4:00AM on Monday at a residence in the 2000 block of Gusmus.

Muscle Shoals Police Chief Clint Reck said the body of Hawkins was found inside the residence and Zachary Nathaniel Bratton, 22 who resided at the home, along with Madison Newsome, 18 of Leighton have been arrested and both have been charged with robbery 1st degree.  Bratton was injured in the shooting as well.

Investigators say Bratton and Hopkins attempted to attack the 22-year-old Florence man and the man fired shots in self-defense.

Officials say a fourth person, the assumed victim of the robbery was not injured but was taken into custody for questioning.   The 22-year-old man from Florence has been released and to date no charges have been lodged against him according to Police Chief Reck.
