Joanne Marie Jones Wilson of Huntsville, wife, mother, grandmother, sister and best friend, passed away on November 7, 2018. Born in Mobile, AL, Joanne and twin sister, Jane, were adopted together by loving parents, Alden and Margaret Jones, of Montgomery, AL. After earning a Bachelor of Science from The University of Alabama in 1965, Joanne moved to Huntsville, AL, where she met her husband, Walt. Joanne and Walt were married at St. Andrew’s Catholic Church in Montgomery in 1967 and had three beautiful children together: Michael Byrd and Gerard who were called to heaven as infants, and Margaret. Joanne led a full life, working as secretary in the aeronautical industry during the Apollo years, and at Holy Family Catholic School, and working as a very active Mamaw to her three grandchildren. Joanne was a proud member of the Forever Green Mountain Garden Club, serving as newsletter editor for many years, as well as a member of the Huntsville Botanical Gardens and the Huntsville chapter of the NAWCC. Joanne was a longtime parishioner of St. Mary of the Visitation Catholic Church where she served as a Minister of Holy Communion, and a founding member of St. John Paul II Catholic High School.

Joanne was a blessing to all who knew and loved her, always smiling, always supporting, not only pointing out silver linings but living them every day.

Joanne is survived by her loving husband of 51 years, Walter B. Wilson III of Huntsville; sisters, Jane Poole (Mike Poole) of Montgomery and Mary Alden Poole (Tim Poole) of Dawsonville, GA; daughter, Margaret Hataway (Jeff Hataway) of Huntsville, and grandchildren, Andrew Hataway, sophomore at the University of South Alabama in Mobile, Erin Hataway, freshman at St. John Paul II Catholic High School (Huntsville), and Gabriel Hataway, kindergartener at St. John’s Catholic School in Madison.

Visitation will be held Monday, November 12th, at Laughlin Service Funeral Home from 5-7 p.m. with a vigil service at 7. The funeral mass will be held at St. Mary of the Visitation Catholic Church Tuesday, November 13th, at 10am followed by internment at Maple Hill Cemetery, Huntsville.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to your favorite church or charity.
