Virginia Voekel, 94, of Huntsville, passed away early Saturday morning. Virginia was born in Hooker, OK, but moved to Huntsville when she was very young. She graduated from Riverton High School, where she met her beloved husband of over 50 years, Paul Henry Voekel.

Virginia, known to many as, “Gobba,” loved to sew and cook. She made beautiful quilts, all quilted by hand, and amazing dinners she could pull together, never turning anyone away for a meal.  Although she and her husband never had any of their own children, she loved spending time with her nieces and nephews, and close family friends, often referring to all of them as, “the kids.”

She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, and all her siblings. Survivors include her nieces and nephews, Judi Moon, Rodney Moon (Jenny), Shay Campbell (Gwen), Starr Hodgson (George), and Maryann Hipps; many great nieces and nephews; and close family friends, Rankin Sneed, Michele Sneed, Andrew Sneed (Bethany), Marydae Sneed Blank (Ben), and their children. The family would like to pay special tribute to long time caregivers, Winda Ford and Lynn Walsh, along with both of their families, as well as Kim Blazer.

Virginia’s body will lie in state on Thursday, November 1 from 11:00 am – 8:00 pm at Laughlin Service Funeral Home. Visitors are welcome to stop by during that time to pay their respects. A graveside funeral service will be held on Friday, November 2 at 11:15 am at Maple Hill Cemetery.
