Charlie McDonald “Mack” Williams, Sr. – Obituary

Charlie McDonald “Mack” Williams, Sr., 86, died Tuesday, September 18, 2018, at his residence. He was born in Pontotoc County, September 6, 1932, to James Nathaniel and Icey Roberta Sparks Williams.  Early in life, he served on the USS Manchester in the United States Navy during the Korean War. On March 10, 1971, he married Frances Hood in Marion County, Alabama.  Later in life, he worked as the Building Coordinator at Tupelo Free Will Baptist Church for 32 years until his health began to decline. Mack loved to fish, work in his yard and watch wrestling. He was an active member of Tupelo Free Will Baptist Church where he coached the men’s softball team for several years.

 

Survivors include his wife, Frances Williams of Tupelo; sons, Charlie “Chuck” M. Williams, Jr. and his wife, Heather of Tupelo, Jackie Williams and his wife, Ramona and Paul Williams and his wife, Martha all of Tupelo, Michael Whitmon and Allen Whitmon and his wife, Michelle all of Mooreville; grandchildren, Lilly Mae Williams, Grady Williams, Silas Williams, Amber Riley Williams, Austin Whitmon, Landon Whitmon, Mallie Whitmon, Brayden Whitmon,  Bryson Whitmon, Amy Martin, Jay Williams, Wesley Williams and Beverly Agnew; numerous great-grandchildren; and sister, Earline Hammons of Sherman.

 

He was preceded in death by his parents, James and Icey Williams; two daughters, Angie Williams Riley and Beverly Jane Robinson; two sons, Charles Allen Williams and Roger Dale Williams; three brothers, Othel Williams, Archie Williams and Joe Williams; and one great-granddaughter, Natalie Nicole Griffin.

 

Services honoring his life will be 11 a.m. Friday, September 21, 2018, at Tupelo Free Will Baptist Church with Rev. Wayne Bess and Rev. Terry Pierce officiating. Graveside services will follow in Tupelo Memorial Park. W.E. Pegues Funeral Directors in charge of the arrangements.

 

Visitation will be from 5 until 7 p.m. Thursday, September 20, 2018, at the church.

 

Pallbearers will be Bryson Whitmon, Brayden Whitmon, Austin Whitmon, Landon Whitmon, Tommy Sudduth, Jr. and Bobby Huey.

 

Honorary pallbearers will be Darryl Dickerson, Barry Hood, Joey Cole, Tommy Sudduth, Sr., Jason Shelton, John Shelton and James Petty.

 

The family would like to extend a special thank you to Betty Westmoreland, Bobby and Debbie Huey and James Petty.

 

Memorials may be made to the Tupelo Free Will Baptist Building Fund, 1650 N. Veterans Memorial Blvd Tupelo, MS 38804.
