FLORENCE-Captain Brad Holmes of Criminal Investigations/Internal Affairs of the Florence Police Department on Thursday, August 16 issued a press release concerning the arrest of a suspect in several vehicle burglaries in the Forst Hills Subdivision area:

“Early yesterday morning the Florence Police Department began responding to multiple vehicle burglary reports in the area of Forest Hills Subdivision. Officers responding to the area were contacted by a bystander who had witnessed a suspicious male leaving the area and followed him to Alpine Village apartments. Officers made contact with the male and found him to be in possession of stolen property from the burglaries.

Additional evidence was located at the scenes which led to charges being filed against Tyrone Houston, 21, of Anniston. Mr. Houston had recently moved to the Florence area and was staying with relatives at a nearby apartment. Houston was transported to the Florence Police Department and interviewed by detectives. Following those interviews, he was transported to the Lauderdale County Detention Center where he was formally booked on multiple counts of burglary and theft.

He is currently being held in the Lauderdale County Detention Center on bond totaling $26,000. During the course of the investigation it was found that Mr. Houston was a convicted felon and was in possession of a stolen firearm. He currently charged with 5 counts of Burglary to a Vehicle, 4 counts of Theft, and Unlawful Possession of a Firearm by a Felon. Additional charges are expected in this case.

We hope that this case serves as a reminder to our community to not leave items of value, especially firearms, in their vehicles unattended. Unfortunately, thieves scout areas of our community and search out vehicles that are unsecured with valuable property left in plain sight.

Our detectives are continuing to work this case and locate additional victims. We also thank the vigilant members of our community who saw something suspicious and contacted police. Because of these vigilant citizens, and the quick response of our patrol division, a suspected burglar is in jail and multiple cases have found resolution.”
